The\u00a0Helenesee<\/b>\u00a0is a lake near by\u00a0Frankfurt (Oder)<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0Oder-Spree<\/a>-Lake area. It is a\u00a0recreation area<\/a>\u00a0and lies in\u00a0Landschaftsschutzgebiet<\/a>\u00a0Former mining area Finkenheerd<\/i>, in which also the adjoining south-east\u00a0Katjasee<\/a>\u00a0located.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The Helenesee station on the railway line\u00a0K\u00f6nigs Wusterhausen<\/a>-Beeskow-Frankfurt (Oder) of the line\u00a0RB\u00a036<\/a>\u00a0is hourly by trains of\u00a0Niederbarnim Railway<\/a>\u00a0(NEB) approached.<\/p>\n

The lake is around 220 hectares in size and at 56.63 m[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0the second deepest lake\u00a0Brandenburgs<\/a>. It is located in the middle of the Brandenburg pine forests around eight kilometers south of\u00a0Frankfurt (Oder)<\/a>\u00a0and is one of the cleanest lakes in the state.[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Its good water quality and the kilometers of textile and nudist beaches gave the lake its nickname \"Small Baltic Sea\".<\/p>\n

Because of the nature of its bottom, the lake is at\u00a0divers<\/a>\u00a0popular. It was created from the former lignite opencast mine \"Grube Helene\" (1906 to 1958). Several diving clubs[5]<\/a><\/sup>, one\u00a0diving school<\/a>[6]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and a submarine for tourists[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0are located at Helenesee.<\/p>\n

A sporting and cultural program such as children's programs, beach parties, live bands and disco evenings is offered from Easter to October. There are among other things\u00a0Tennis<\/a>\u2013 and\u00a0volleyball courts<\/a>,\u00a0soccer fields<\/a>, the offers of the diving and surfing school as well as the boat, pedal car and\u00a0Fahrradverleih<\/a>\u00a0available. These are the highlights of every season\u00a0Helene Beach Festival<\/a><\/i>\u00a0for the young generation and the traditional\u00a0Neptunfest<\/i>\u00a0for families.<\/p>\n

A New Year's dive is organized annually by the Frankfurt underwater club Helene. Participants like the specialists of\u00a0Federal Police<\/a>, who have been taking part in the traditional event for several years, use helicopters to simulate rescue operations in flowing water.<\/p>\n
