On December 16th and 17th, 2017, the nostalgic, pre-Christmas Advent market will take place around the St. Marien Church in Frankfurt (Oder), not far from ours Hotels in Frankfurt (Oder) instead of. With the children's theatre, Christmas carols by choirs and a storyteller, there is a lot going on at the Christmas market at St. Marien Church and there is also a lot on offer for children. The Christmas market in the heart of Frankfurt (Oder) takes place on the third weekend in Advent from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. directly opposite the town hall.

The Weihnachtsmarkt at the St.-Marienkirche is a beloved tradition in Frankfurt (Oder) and takes place every year on the second and third weekend in Advent. This year the market will be held for the 19th time. Every year come to advent market about 9,000 visitors to the Marienkirche.

The former main parish church of Frankfurt (Oder) could only be completed after 250 years in the Middle Ages. After that, however, the church was one of the largest buildings in the North German brick Gothic style. The church is 77 meters long and 45 meters wide - enough space for a wonderful Christmas market. In addition to the Christmas market, cultural events take place in the church throughout the year.

The highlight of the church are its three large stained glass windows, which were created in the Gothic style between 1360 and 1370. The 117 pictures show the story of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark and the life of Jesus. During the Second World War, the windows were removed to protect them from destruction. They were initially stored in Frankfurt (Oder), but then came to Potsdam and later to Russia as spoils of war. There they found their place in the depot of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, but were thought to have been lost for decades.

In April 1945, St. Mary's Church was completely destroyed. Reconstruction only began in 1979, but it only really picked up speed after reunification. Many valuable art treasures from St. Mary's Church are still in St. Gertraud's Church.

In 1991 there was an indication of the whereabouts of 111 of the valuable stained glass windows, but it was not until 2002 that a law was passed to return them. Shortly thereafter, the windows gradually returned to Frankfurt (Oder) and in 2005 the rededication of the first window was celebrated in a ceremony. Shortly thereafter, the six missing windows were found in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Since 2009 you can admire all the windows in the Marienkirche, which have been completely renovated.

Many donations contributed to the reconstruction of the church. The proceeds from the Christmas market also flow into the "Opening and Preservation of the Marienkirche Frankfurt (Oder)" initiative.
