Kostrzyn (Küstrin an der Oder) is located directly on the German-Polish border. It's only 80 kilometers to Berlin, just 30 kilometers to Frankfurt-Oder and just a stone's throw from Slubice, Frankfurt-Oder's twin town. Normally, the Woodstock Station festival takes place in late July or early August, but this year it was moved to July 14-16, 2016 due to World Youth Day in Poland. By the way, the 22nd edition is taking place this year!

The festival has been held every year since 1995 as a thank you for the annual fundraiser organized by the Polish charity WOSP (Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity). Over 70 bands perform on the main stage and two smaller stages. There is a large selection: folk musicians are there, as are cabaret artists, painters and athletes who give interviews there. The concerts range from punk to metal to reggae. There are big stars, but also bands and musicians from the region. And the organizers still come up with many small but special activities such as a football tournament or bungee jumping.

What is the background of the event? In 1993, Jurek Owsiak founded the WOSP. More than 120,000 volunteers collect donations in Poland and around the world. The money goes to hospitals in the country. In 2012 alone, more than 12 million euros were raised. As a thank you, the festival started in 1995, but it is financed by sponsors. This also ensures that the festival is free. But everyone has to take care of their own food.

The motto of the Woodstock Festival is love, friendship and music” and there is always a lot going on: on average 450,000 visitors come from all over Europe, in 2011 it was even 700,000!
